The Emergence and Development of the Ancient Egyptian Civilization

On November 24, 2018, the Human Foundation hosted a forum, presented by Dr. Hazem Attia: “The Emergence and Development of the Ancient Egyptian Civilization”. Dr. Attia is the Professor of Antiquities and Ancient Egyptian Civilization, at the University of Helwan, and Former Governor of Fayoum. He started his talks by highlighting the challenges which the Ancient Egyptians have faced to create this great civilization, he said: “Egypt is the gift of the Nile. However, the Ancient Egyptian civilization has granted life to the Nile”. The Ancient Egyptian civilization started more than 8000 years ago. This occurred when people managed to find a permanent water source (the Nile). They formed the first group to settle along its banks, known as the pre-historic civilizations, creating the Ancient Egyptian High Civilization. A united Egyptian state was formed. The union was applied, not only on the political level, but also on the ethnic level, as the Hamites and Semites have mixed to form what we know as the Egyptian race. The Ancient Egyptian civilization has reached the peak of its first phase of development by the end of the fourth dynasty.
